3 Day Fruit & Veggie Cleans - Day 3 (YAY!)

I'm almost done! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Really, it's not that bad today. The thing that bothers me the most is that I'm very hungry but I'd almost rather eat nothing than another raw veggie or fruit. I just get bored so easily. I'm excited to move on after this detox and add more (healthy) foods into my diet daily. I want to still eat a lot of fruits and vegetables each day, though because before this cleanse I hadn't been eating enough.

I have about 4.5 hours until I can have something to eat, and I think I will do that because I'm hungry and haven't ate that much today at all.

I did lose 6 pounds on this detox though, and if I kept going I'm sure I'd lose more. I don't want to put any back on so I'm going to be extra careful, especially since part of the weight I lost has to be water weight.

Another thing I realized is how much I don't need extra salt. I love the taste of salt and it's the first thing I grab when I sit down to eat but I'm going to really try to not put extra salt on everything just because I'm used to it. Salt makes your body retain water and I don't want that!

So here's to eating healthy and getting in shape, I'm done with this detox at midnight but who knows, I may try it again soon (maybe for longer!?)

See ya...

3 day Fruit & Veggie Cleanse - Day 2

Alright, a little update, day 2.

You know that feeling you get right after you throw up? You're a little shaky, you chest feels weighed down, you can taste orange juice in your throat...yeah, I've been feeling that way since about 10pm last night. Other than that, I'm great! No, really, it's not that bad...

Last night, I went to bed dreaming of pizza rolls and cheeseburgers. Today, I woke up actually craving a smoothie. I also had a head when I went to sleep but it was gone when I woke up. I'm still craving those things, just not as bad as I was last night. That being said...I haven't experienced tonight yet. Night time is definitely the hardest. Only two more nights!

I'm actually impressed with myself, that I've been able to last this long. It's really, really hard. I'm so hungry, mainly because it's hard to fill up on this stuff. I can't wait until Friday, when I can have an actual dinner. I think I'll grill myself up some stir fry...or fajitas! More than half way there!

Stay tuned!

3 Day Fruit & Veggie Cleanse - Day 1

So, I started out today thinking I was about to go on a 10 fruit and vegetable cleanse/detox...

I was wrong. I've decided to cut it back to three days. I know that sounds like failing or giving up, but I have many reasons. Really, I do! Let's start at the beginning.

I've been wanting to do a cleanse for a while now. During the month of July, I ate like crap. I went camping, then the week later I went to Tennessee for 7 days. My Great Aunt in Tennessee loves to bake and cook, and the good old fashioned southern kind of cooking at that. I've had more fast food meals in July than I want to admit. (Hey! You try to control yourself around a Chick-Fil-A when you don't have any where you live!!) I've been feeling sluggish, my skin has been acting up, and I've been getting headaches more than I'm used to.

I've been reading up on different cleanses and detox diets for weeks and I put together one that combines most of the one's I've seen.  Some diets only allow fruits and vegetables to be organic, some only raw, some diets include nuts and grains, some green tea, some herbal tea, and so on...I decided to eat fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, water and green tea. I haven't decided if I want the vegetables to be able to be cooked but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

The benefits of cleanses/detoxes can be:
  • literal "cleansing" of your system
  • healthier skin, nails and hair
  • more energy
  • weight loss
I'm looking for all of those benefits in doing this cleanse.

Some detoxes last for 1-3 days, some 7-10 and there are even people who do it for 30 days. I plan to do this detox diet for 3 days, meaning I'll be done with it Friday, August 12th when I wake up. Even that is going to be difficult for me.

Today proved to be pretty hard. Especially since I didn't ease into the diet. I'm hoping by doing this detox that on Friday, I wont want to ruin all the hard work I've done so I will continue to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables but add some proteins and dairy to the mix-slowly. I also hope that after I do this, I'll try for a 5 day one in a month or two, then eventually complete the 10 day cleanse (so that I can cross it off one of my 101 in 1001 items.)
I don't want to be too hard on myself, I really did think I could do it for ten days right off the bat. I'll get there one day but for now I think 3 days is going to be a pretty big challenge.

I went to the fruit/veggie market yesterday to buy all the things I'd need for this detox. I bought:
  • cherries
  • apples
  • starfruit
  • cactus pear
  • peaches
  • strawberries
  • bananas
  • pears
  • blueberries
  • red grapes
  • kiwis
  • lemons (for water)
  • romaine lettuce
  • cherry tomatoes
  • baby carrots
  • spinach
  • red bell peppers
  • green bell peppers
  • asparagus
  • sweet potatoes
I also picked up some green tea and some applesauce.

LOVE these! some were clearance for $1.94!

Most simple ingredient list I've ever seen

My beverage choice lately, venti shaken green tea!
Today I felt okay until about 2pm, when I started to get very hungry. I feel that way now, too, mainly because I find it almost impossible to fill up on fruits and vegetables. I also have a slight headache, but I've had it for two days now. I've been taking a multi-vitamin, vitamin D and E everyday as well. I'm really looking forward to this weekend, being able to eat like a human again! :)

I'll write a quick post tomorrow and Thursday, letting you all know how I'm feeling at the time! Thanks for reading!

101 in 1001

I'm sure many of you have heard of 101 in 1001. But just in case you haven't...it's basically a growing experience in which you make a list of 101 things you'd like to accomplish in the next 1001 days. I'm starting my list tomorrow, August 1, 2011 and my 1001 days will end on April 28th, 2014. It sounds like forever away but really, it's not. I've made a list of the things I honestly think I have a chance at accomplishing before my time runs out! I'm doing this challenge along with my good friend, Lindsey and my mom. Sinful Colors 24/7 vs Sinful Colors Fusion Neon

Alright, so it all started when...
Michele1218 on YouTube mentioned in a video that she was really into an old(er) Essie polish called Pink Parka. It was a bright neon pink and very pretty. Someone tweeted that a Sinful Colors polish called 24/7 was a very similar shade. I knew I owned a neon pink from Sinful Colors (that just happened to be on my toes) so I figured it had to be 24/7.
But then when I was picking out nail polishes for my Summer Besties Tag, I happened to look at the bottom and noticed it was called Fusion Neon. What? Now I was curious.
I went up to Walgreens and picked up the hottest pink I could find in the Sinful Colors display. "Fusion Neon" it read. Hmmm...so did the next three bottles. Finally I picked up one from the bottom of a picked over shelve. 24/7! I found it. But wait, what was the difference?

Don't mind the nail polish on the lid...got a little crazy with the splatter experiment.

SC Fusion Neon on the left, SC 24/7 on the right.

SC Fusion Neon on the left, SC 24/7 on the right.

SC Fusion Neon on the toes, SC 24/7 on the fingers :)

SC Fusion Neon on the left, SC 24/7 on the right.
I literally cannot tell any difference in color when I look at the bottles, swatches or polish on my actual nails. There are only a handful of unimportant details that differ.
1. The bottles are different. I honestly can't remember when I purchased Fusion Neon but it must be in an older bottle because the newer SC colors I have are in the same bottle as 24/7. The polish goes down further towards the bottom of the bottle and the bottle appears thinner on the newer polishes. Both are still .5 oz though, the normal amount of a nail polish.
2. The application. Here's where the polish differs the most to me. As you can see in the last picture, when held up to the light, you can see that 24/7 is more streaky. Both swatches have 4 coats but even after that, 24/7 can still look streaky on your nails. I'd much prefer Fusion Neon based on application.

Similarities:
1. Color, obviously. They are identical. I've asked several people, and not even my color blind boyfriend, could tell the difference. Same shade, same undertone, same same.
2. Finish. Both colors finish matte. I have a shiny top coat on my nails but the swatches on the nail wheels are the shades alone.
3. Since they are both mattes, they dry very quickly.

The only difference is application. It's almost as if they took the same polish and rebottled it but somehow tweaked the formula a little and thinned out the 24/7 version. Not sure why they'd ever do that but, hey. Maybe one bottle was older and therefore thicker in consistency? I could ponder this longer but frankly, I don't care. If you can't get ahold of Essie Pink Parka, I'd recommend picking one of these shades up. Preferably Fusion Neon ;) They're all gorgeous!
And besides, it's only $1.99!

What do you think?
Do you own any of these three polishes?

COVERGIRL Lip Perfection Lipsticks

I have heard all the hype behind these lippies and as much as I wanted to try them out, I was on Project 10 Pan so I wasn't able to pick any up. Well, I just happened to be in Rite Aid yesterday and noticed that all COVERGIRL products were Buy One, Get One 50% Off. Perfect time to try these out! I think it came out to be around $11.00 US.

I picked up two shades, Enchantress (a blue based bright pink) and Delight (a pink based red.) There were so many gorgeous colors to choose from and, based on my first impression of the colors I bought, I may have to go back and get a few more. I don't know what made me get Delight, it is beautiful but it's not a color I'd normally go for. I do know why I picked up Enchantress, even though I need another hot pink like I need a hole in the head...it's somehow different from the ones I own already.

Now, since I only picked these up yesterday, I cannot comment on the claims that they transform your lips in seven days. They do, however, feel very nice and smooth on the lips.

I love the packaging on these, very classy and modern pewter squared tubes with the true color of the lippy on the bottom. The tube does tend to attract fingerprints but who really cares? ;)

Enchantress is a beautiful color in it's most opaque form, but even when it wears off (or you wipe it because you just had to try it on as soon as you got to work, ahem) it's evenly and almost like a stain. In fact, the swatch from last night is still visible on my hand this morning. The color itself is very bright, almost neon, and has a sheen (not shimmer), metallic frost if you will, but it does leave traces of glitter everywhere that I don't notice when it's on...? Given the frost factor and the color of this lipstick itself, if not applied correctly could make you look like an extra from an 80's sitcom, if you know what I mean. (not that there's anything wrong with that...) It's still a pretty color though. I can say that my lips felt pretty tight after wearing this and it wasn't moisturizing, which normally isn't a big deal, especially if it stays on for a long time...but when your claim is that it "perfects" your lips...
Delight is a more wearable bright, I'd say. It's perfect if you want to do a modern red lip but don't want to have to worry about being so careful with a deep true red. This color goes on sheer at first but is buildable and much easier to wear than a plain old red color. Delight's formula reminds me of a MAC Lustre. Definitely more moisturizing of the two.

I'm really dying to try more shades, perhaps a peachy coral next?

Let's get to the swatches, shall we?

I plan to update this blog if I ever get the chance to wear one of these lipsticks for seven days straight...ha! Or if I happen to purchase a few more colors!

Have any of you tried these new(er) lipsticks? How do you like them?

40 Beauty Questions - Revisited :)

I thought I'd pop on here and fill out this beauty questionnaire, just in case any one was wondering if any part of my beauty routine had changed, and of course, to invite all of you to fill it out as well. If memory serves me correct, I haven't done this tag in over a year. This was one of the first posts I ever wrote on this blog, and I remember writing it on a chilly March day, at Starbucks, while on my break from class.

I also want to write this because I've once again neglected this blog a little. I will continue to do NOTDs and other posts as well, I've just been very busy lately. Between trying to get the yard done before Summer, work and school (yes, I went back to school) I haven't had much free time! Enough blabbering, here we go.

Skincare!

1)How many times do you wash your face daily? Once or twice, depending on the day and how tired I am. If I don't wash it at night, I will wash it in the morning. Sometimes I wash it at night and in the morning and there are some days where I only wash at night and use a toner in the morning.

2)What skin type do you have? I have combination/sensitive/acne prone. Not the best combo, I know! I'm hoping one day I'll become too old to break out. But by then I'm sure I'll have wrinkles so I guess I'll never win in the skincare department!

3)What is your current facial wash? I currently use a mixture of cleansers. I alternate between a salicylic acid wash (Biore Ice Cleanser) and a Benzoyl Peroxide cleanser (my favorites are Clean & Clear Continuous Control and Nuetrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask) and for exfoliators I use St. Ive's Green Tea Scrub. I recently purchased a Black African Soap from Target that seems to work well.

4)Do you exfoliate? Whoops, I guess I answered this one too soon. Yes, I do, my favorite exfoliators are the St. Ive's Green Tea Scrub and BeFine Brown Sugar Scrub. I also have a face brush and a Neutrogena Wave Sonic that I like to use to get a deeper clean.

5)What brand do you use? See above :)

6)What moisturiser do you use? For years I've been using the Up & Up Dual Action Moisturizer, which is the Target brand version of the Clean & Clear moisturizer of the same name. It's the only lotion that doesn't break me out and I believe that's because it contains salicylic acid. It's also not greasy.

7)Do you have freckles? A few on my nose and shoulders when I get some sun in the summer.

8)Do you use eye cream? I have an Olay one but I don't use it as often as I should :(

9)Do you or did you have acne prone skin? YUP! Ever since I can remember.

10)Did you ever have to use Pro-Activ? Yes I did in high school. It was a bit too drying for my skin, though.

Make-up!

11)What foundation do you use? I've been a fan of Revlon ColorStay for a while but I've been on the hunt for one with slightly more coverage. I recently picked up three samples (MUFE HD, MUFE Mat Velvet + and Chanel AquaLumiere) and while the others were just okay, MUFE Mat Velvet + (shade 25 for reference) has become my HG Foundation after just a few uses. I think it's safe to say I'm in love and I don't think it even breaks me out, which a lot of foundations tend to do. Amazing coverage and the color match is spot on. I am going to pick up a bottle this week! Note to self: Film Updated Foundation Routine.

12)How about concealer? Well, it's no secret that I couldn't live without my Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Bisque. But for heavy duty coverage on the face, I've got to go with Hard Candy Glamoflage. That stuff covers everything. I am starting to like my Bare Minerals Well-Rested for setting my under eye concealer.

13)Do you know your undertone colour? Pink.

14)What do you think of fake eyelashes? I really don't use them. I think they look gorgeous but I'm not that good at applying them and they annoy me when they're on. I like the effect though!

15)Did you know you were supposed to change your mascara every 3 months? Yes but I don't necessarily follow that rule. Depends on the mascara.

16)What brand of mascara do you use? I love trying new mascaras. My favorite one has to be Makeup Forever Smoky Lash.

17)Sephora or Mac? Both!!

18)Do you have a Mac Pro card? No :(

19)What makeup tools do you use in makeup application? I use a lot of different brushes  by different brands but I'm going to try the Ulta brand "BeautyBlender" soon. I bought it last week. Perhaps I'll try it today.

20)Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes? Always, just out of habit. I'll either use a MAC Paint Pot or Urban Decay Primer Potion.

21)For the face? Rarely. If I'm going somewhere where I'm going to be for a long time, or I really want to try to achieve a a flawless face.

22)What is your favourite eyeshadow? Colour or shade? I tend to like warm browns, taupes and bronzy colors. Anything neutral! I love using the NAKED Palette, and colors like MAC All That Glitters, Woodwinked, Satin Taupe...the list goes on and on.

23)Do you use pencil or liquid liner? Sometimes pencil, sometimes gel. Rarely ever liquid.

24)How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil? I'd say about once a week, lol.

25)What do you think of pigment eyeshadows? I used to be terrified by them, because I thought they'd be nothing but a mess. But it turns out I really do like them. I wouldn't necessarily call them a pigment (but they are loose)  but I love Bare Minerals shadows and NYX Pigments.

26)Do you use mineral makeup? Bare Minerals. Not the foundation because I prefer liquid but I do like their shimmery eyeshadows and Well-Rested. I also like the finish their Mineral Veil gives.

27)What is your favourite lipstick? Just one!? That's too hard. A few of my favorites are MAC Creme Cup, MAC Shy Girl, Revlon Fashion's Night Pout and I love Clinique Chubby Sticks.

28)How about lipgloss? I really like Revlon Super Lustrious Lip Glosses and I like the NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss.

29)What is your favourite blush to use? I love how NARS Blushes blend but I only own two of them. I really like NYX Blushes too, they have a good color selection and are great quality for the price.

30)Do you buy your makeup on Ebay? I've only bought one nail polish, Essie Topless & Barefoot, on Ebay.

31)Do you like drugstore makeup? Of course! There's a lot of good finds there!

32)Do you go to CCO's? Cosmetic Company Outlet? Yes, a few times a year. We have two that are about an hour and a half from where I live in Michigan and I go to one in Tennessee when I'm there on vacation.

33)Did you ever consider taking makeup classes? Yes.

34)Are you clumsy in putting on makeup? I'm clumsy in general but I think the fact that I do it every single day helps out a lot ;)

35)Name a makeup crime that you hate? Overdrawn eyebrows. Or eyebrows that are plucked way too much in the middle, making them over an inch apart, EW.

36)Do you like colourful shades of makeup (lipstick or eyeshadow) or neutral ones? Neutral on eyes with bright colors on the lips. Hot pinks and corals are my favorite!

37)Which celebrity always has great makeup? Kim Kardashian. Of course, I would too if I had my own personal makeup artist!

38)If you could leave the house using just ONE makeup item, what would you use? I guess concealer, but a close second would be mascara.

39)Could you leave the house without any makeup on? Yes, I do all the time. And I usually run into the people I absolutely would not like to see when I don't have makeup on. Isn't that how it always works?

40)Do you think you look good even without any makeup on? Lol, not really. Like I said my skin isn't perfect, I have bad dark circles and scaring. I just feel more comfortable in public with it on.

41)In your opinion what is the BEST makeup line? I honestly enjoy products from so many different brands that I can't name just one.

42)What do you think of makeup? I love makeup. I love collecting it, trying out new products and sharing it with my friends and family and seeing them be excited about it too! I also love coming up with new looks to wear every day. It's just a fun hobby to me :)

Well, there you go. Not sure why there's 42 Questions...I guess there's some bonus ones in there. If you have time, fill out this survey and post in (or the link) in a comment, I'd love to read it!
